Indigenous Communities Active for Life

(ICA4L)

The ICA4L Pathway offers a workshop that your organization can host or participate in, along with the opportunity to become certified in delivering the ICA4L workshops.

Indigenous Communities: Active for Life Workshop (ICA:4L WS):

This workshop were created with guidance from Indigenous leaders throughout the country. Community leaders will be inspired by culturally tailored resources that act as a vehicle toward individual and community holistic development.

This workshop support these individual champions as they embark on a journey to develop sustainable quality sport and physical activity programs, build collaborative relationships, and re-engage their community members into active and healthy lifestyles.

Upon completion participants will:

  • Ideas on creating quality experiences in sport, physical activity, and recreation programs.
  • An understanding of physical literacy.
  • Relevant tools, resources, and action plans supporting Indigenous communities' sport and physical activity programs.
  • Ideas for best practices for supporting participants’ physical, mental, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • A certificate of workshop completion and 3 National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Professional Development (PD) points (if applicable).

Indigenous Communities: Active for Life Learning Facilitator Training (IC:A4L LF Training):

Purpose: To equip potential Learning Facilitators with an understanding of delivering the objectives of the ICA4L resource and workshop which provide community leaders with:

  1. Ideas on how to create quality experiences in their sport, physical activity, and recreation programs
  2. An understanding of physical literacy, which is the development of movement skills, confidence, and motivation to be active for life
  3. Tools, resources, and action plans to further support their delivery of quality sport and physical activity programs in their community
  4. Ideas to support their participants’ physical, mental, spiritual, and cultural needs
